Project's details

Project title Wearable Radiation Detector
Background Prof Hooman in the ECE department wants to design a wrist worn Geiger counter to test for radiation while walking around various environments. There is potential for being on a publication and students will be working in coordination with Varian Medical Systems in the Bay Area.
Description This project will create an app that gathers the data from the detector through Bluetooth. From the app. we want the application to provide not only numerical data. but graphical data as well from different times such as day to day or week to week. With this information provided by the app. people will be able to easily analyse and sense patterns of radiation within an environment. giving them the necessary data to take action if radiation levels get too high.
Deliverable An aesthetically pleasing and responsive website or app that is compatible on various common platforms and performs the following functions:
1)Pair with the wearable devices and create user accounts for it
2)Record user data that is sent and received through Bluetooth device
3)Track the amount of radiation during different time period
4)Analyze the radiation exposure and provide suggestions to the user (is it still safe for them to work in certain environment?)

Some nice to have features can be added if time permits:
5)Create a radiation density map for a certain range of environment
6)Send an alarm to the user if there is a danger detected/computed
Skill set desirable Experience with database APIs (retrieving data). pre-processing data. and data
visualization tools; HTML. CSS. and Javascript (web development); IOS/Android app development experience
